I mean, look at the protagonist’s face and tell me if you expect him to be a beautiful flower:
hadaka shitsuji * スワンソング
Anyway, he’s Tomoaki, a college student working a part-time job in a restaurant. One day, he’s fired after he defends Sayaka, his coworker and childhood friend, from a man harassing her. He’s getting by, without a job, until he’s handed a flyer for a job of someone who can play the role of ‘master who can take care of a mansion.’ Tomoaki is obviously doubtful of being offered such a high-paying, weird job, but he goes, and his future butlers welcome him…
This is full of degeneracy LOL. Your experience depends on the type of route you choose. If you want the good endings (that are considered bad endings in the game), you’ll not see the full degeneracy that Tomoaki forces the butlers to do. If you want the true endings, then be prepared.
Tomoaki is very much an asshole even outside the ‘master’ role. So, when given the power to do whatever he wants with five butlers at his disposal and obeying every order they’re given, he takes advantage of it. Surprisingly, Tomoaki, at first, understands that he’s being unreasonable when he feels anger and jealousy when the butlers focus on what’s important at the moment and don’t focus on him 24/7 but, as the usual vn protagonist who’s a loser in life, he craves the attention and devotion. It doesn’t help that all the love interests’ feelings are genuine and kind, thus devoting themselves to Tomoaki, no matter how cruel and dehumanizing he is with them. Literally, all love interest are such sweethearts.
Sakuma… I was excited to do his route, tbh! I liked his design overall, but I expected more ; _ ; Sakuma is the head butler and the second in charge of the household. He takes his job too seriously that he has neglected his own personal life, devoting himself to the mansion and his master, resulting in a very… innocent behavior (like everyone in this damn game), and Tomoaki sure finds fun in corrupting the ‘perfect butler’ image Sakuma projects.
Despite everything, I liked Sakuma a lot. Unfortunately, when you finish the other routes, you can realize they have much more to offer than Sakuma's. A shame, but I like him a lot anyway. I always find interest in characters that 'break out' of their mold / what they're expected to do, in some way (even if Sakuma's situation are not what I had in mind).
Ichinose. The gardener with a forgetful memory, androgynous looks, and a speech impediment. I thought I could stomach a lot of things, but as of late, by getting older, I’ve been surprisingly becoming more sensitive towards disgusting stuff lol. Nevertheless, his good route is really nice. His true route... not so much. the ‘vase’ scene got me so bad. idk why it disgusted me so bad t_t
IMHO, the only endearing thing making me like him was his stupidity like his scenes trying to 'turn' into a flower lmao + his good ending + his white hair, but other than that I can't remember anything else from him that it's meaningful.
good route spoilersHim focusing on improving his life and work with his speech impediment was a nice conclusion for his type of character. Tomoaki destroying his sanctuary, which is the garden, is a breaking point for Ichinose, but a point of realization that he had been a ‘conformist’ with his way of living, and he needed to stop neglecting himself… It was such a nice way to end his character in a ‘good way.’ It's one of my favorites, now that I think of it.Komine. The extrovert and funny cook who right away confesses he likes Tomoaki. His route was good in both the good endings and true ending! Didn’t expect to like him that much, but it was torture to get through his endings and CGs… This one was one of the worst for me because I don’t even have to explain what Tomoaki will do to a cook. I suffered a lot, but Komine’s character and narrative were good because he has an ‘unrequited love’ that Tomoaki is delighted to exploit + Komine has a free spirit that Tomoaki soon finds disliking it, since it means Komine is thinking about where to head next, not about his master…
I had the wrong impression of him at first, but him actually being a lovey-dovey guy after all he told of his past was a nice surprise that added weight to the punch in the face that is Tomoaki. But I’ll never touch his route again lol never never. If you can’t stomach disgusting stuff with food, I don’t recommend this at all. i’ll suggest looking into his tags in the vndb if you have something specific that disgusts you bad bad when completing all of his CGs.
Komine’s true ending got me LMFAO. Also, one of his bad endings where he loses his sanity and becomes a cannibal, wasn’t bad at all. it felt different to notice how tomoaki himself turned out to be a yandere in his route.
spoilers for true ending
how could i forget i was doing the true route???? LOL they were fooling me BAD. i was thinking ‘damn this isn’t that bad for a true route’ because they were being lovey dovey during intercouse and stuff and how komine was taking out his heart to give it to tomoaki, you know? but then tomoaki reaffirms that komine is also just a sexual object to him and the romantic music stops and i was left dumbfounded and so was komine with his surprised face man. and then that ridiculous cg of him spitting all of that… they got me. they fooled me LOL. this true route was good af. and the last line “i had everything except what i really needed”??? MAN. despite all my discomforts in this route, i really liked it overall.Arisato. His reasons to be the usual clumsy-innocent-one were unexpectedly interesting, since I expected his route to be the usual stupid character who gets punished the most for 'dark' comedy relief. His justifications for his clumsiness made the route more engaging, specially since he isn't seen as this totally innocent kid. Tomoaki's annoyance towards his attitude, suicidal tendencies / thoughts + his control over Arisato, knowing Arisato could drown in mere compliments or even the slightest attention while treating him like shit shows a truly, terrific situation that, in their eyes, they're the perfect match. In my perspective, Arisato could be the most interesting character personality-wise. Or perhaps I like when the stereotypical tropes get a good plot twist lol.
Toudo. Expected him to be a gentle giant and I was right!!! He's such a sweetheart and I enjoyed his route overall. Interestingly, the true route feels less punishing that the rest of the characters': Tomoaki seems to be more 'in tune' with his feelings towards a butler, like accepting his sudden interest with Toudo. Perhaps I was already tired of this game when doing his route (he was the last lol), but even Tomoaki's depravation felt like they didn't belong in this route, and just appeared since it's present in the rest of the routes. In any case, Toudo's pilgrimage to get Tomoaki's affection felt less heavy but still hurt to watch--How can you teach a sweetheart, someone who cries with romantic novels, loathes violence, how to 'hate'?
spoilers for true and good ending
actually surprised his true ending is a happy one? LOL i was just reading it, waiting for the inevitable but it ended in such a sweet way that i thought i reached a good / bad ending. i'm very confused, but for this to be my last ending, i appreciate it anyway LOL.
his good ending was so nice too. tomoaki felt very different too during the route + the endings... i'll just appreciate them and not try to wonder too much about it >>
Mizoguchi. Wild. Wild stuff happened here.
It's overall a decent story but it doesn't go beyond what it's mean to be. It's like, here, have these butlers and see which one sticks with you and have the most absurds scenes with them, have fun.
If I remember correctly, the whole game was made by one person? So it's either impressive or scary lol. The characters are diverse, and, although they all share the same stupidity / devotion (as you may see it), their reasons to be a butler and their resolve are different; I also can appreciate that the creator tried to give each one of them something to work with, which affected who they are + Tomoaki having different reasons to take advantage of them.
The ending of the general true route is something I didn't expect and it just left me laughing by the absurdity of it. The whole game is a long, absurdity insanity that I just wanted to end already >_> I can acknowledge the effort to create something wild and stupid and trying to make something coherent out of it. Would I recommend this to anyone? No, unless you are a hardcore fujo/fudan who reads anything. In that case, go ahead.
